vernal musings

I tried to ignore it. I closed my curtains, pretended the dust storms were just foggy mornings (and foggy afternoons... and foggy evenings), and insisted on continuing to wear light sweaters in my over-air-conditioned apartment. But I can no longer deny the undeniable: spring is in the air. Kuwaiti spring, that is.

Today, for instance, was not just balmy; it was warm. And by warm, of course, I mean hot - as in "I'm damp all over, despite ditching the light sweater". *sigh*

Let's face it: I'm not really a summer person. I'm more of a summer vacation person. Year round. Which begs the question, Why am I living in the Middle East? Hmm... good question.

I guess it's not so bad most of the year. In fact, this year we were positively spoiled, as the cool, rainy weather lasted well into heat-wave season. And frankly, commuting from one air conditioned building to another air conditioned building in an air conditioned car is not that uncomfortable during the warm months.

Except for days like today, when one has the misfortune of hopping into a warm, sticky, distinctly un-air-conditioned taxi, with a driver who has clearly not mastered the art of bathing or discovered antiperspirant or both. It was a very... umm... shall we say... fragrant ride. *sigh*

I hate it when my Porsche is in the shop for maintenance... Cayman beats taxi any day. : p

I don't handle summer in Canada very well. I don't think I'll be moving to the Middle East anytime soon.
