inclementitis

Last night, during our Lost World marathon, we were expecting another mother-of-all-storms (think hurricane-force winds). Mother nature, however, had other plans, because by the time Kirsten and I called it a night around the pumpkin hour, it was windy but still clear.

Not much to my surprise, I woke up to a soft, white world. In fact, as Anita and I were watching Raise the Red Lantern (a fabulous Chinese movie starring Gong Li), I happened to mention to her that if I squint just right, the view outside my balcony doors could pass for a London snow storm. Anita chuckled. I kept on wishing for a real white-out. I miss snow...

But I digress.

I am now watching the Alien movies (hey - I've been trapped indoors for 24 hours and I already finished re-reading War of the Worlds; what's a girl supposed to do besides indulge in her home theater and one of the best franchises ever created?... maybe I'll watch Predators next... Adrien Brody plays a shockingly convincing special ops dude).

I am simultaneously watching trailers on my iPhone. Did you know that Werner Herzog has completed a new documentary, Cave of Forgotten Dreams? Earlier in his career, this acclaimed German director made mostly theatrical films; he now focuses his talents primarily on documentaries - and they are breathtaking. I had the pleasure of briefly chatting with him about his filmmaking some years back and the man is as intelligent, warm, and enthusiastic about his craft as his work suggests.

And now, back to the adventures of Ripley and company.
